Going Glamping

Going Glamping

Tears and tipis. How I got into glamping

Crowded tents, torrential rain and the constant fear of being washed away lead me to the same conclusion as my Glastonbury attendance, not to mention my age, increases. Dragging myself out of my small and sodden tent, I gaze toward the sky from Pennard Hill and squint my eyes enviously at the field of beautiful white tipis that dot the skyline.

Camping has always been one of my favourite ways to spend summer weekends; ever since I was little I remember tucking into a tin of cold beans and playing football with my brother at many of the campsites lining the Gower. But as I get older, it’s not my enthusiasm for camping that wavers, but my ability to spend a stony night under the stars without thinking of my home comforts or secretly dreaming of an airbed to rest my aging muscles on.

Accepting that I’m no longer the girl that I once was, there comes a time when I must put my pride, and my stay-up-and-party-whatever-the-weather reputation aside, and be true to my bodily desires of warmth and comfort. Is it wrong that whilst only still in my early twenties I can’t quite swallow the nostalgia of marshmallows by the fire and long for a quiet B&B instead? Regardless of your judgments, I have found a way to rediscover my youthful spirit, as well as my faith in the outdoor pursuit, and re-enter the world of happy campers.

Let’s be frank here. No one’s getting any younger, and as the world’s luxurious commodities become a necessity, and far too easy to come by, why should us bright young things accept anything less? Enter ‘glamping’. An exciting new way to indulge in the life outdoors, and let’s be honest, a far more enjoyable way to spend what is most likely to be a wet weekend in Wales or a five-day torrential downpour at Glastonbury.

Bye-bye to generic, tiny and infinitely frustrating tents and hello to glamour in every aesthetic sense. Regardless of your choice of shape, size or colour, the tents on offer in the glamping experience tick all the right boxes – be it comfort or style. My favourite site to peruse glamping porn is Go Glamping.

With enough room to pop your champagne cork without danger of an eye injury and most importantly room to comfortably rest one’s head, once tried there is no going back. I don’t care how many scoffs I may endure from my more adventurous friends. Whilst they are still waking from half-hearted sleeps and rubbing sore necks, I am lavishing in all of glamping’s delights.

Not sure on ‘glamping’, what was wrong with braving the elements and getting back to nature?

Though you do make it sound pretty appealing.
