As one of the top ten social nuisances in Europe dog poo has a lot to answer for. From the fabled ‘white dog poo‘ to that familiar sickening squelch underfoot, it’s a problem nobody wants to deal with. Responsible pet owners will scoop the poop only to find themselves vexed with where to put the waste. Enter the Muksak, like a micro wheely bin, the Muksak has a rubber sealed lid with a locking hinge that ensures no unpleasant smells will escape its grey confines.
Is it for campers?
It’s this clever hinge and rubber seal that brings the Muksak to our attention. Whilst there’s plenty of overlap between dog owners and campers, the Muksak’s unique form makes it ideal for keeping moisture out as well as in. Alison from Muksak told us, “The Muksak would be useful for campers, as it is watertight under normal circumstances and can be also be hung up in a tent.” We also heard that kayakers were using it to keep their lunch dry.
The Muksak is certainly dry, filling it with water we tipped it over the head of a passing child and were only mildly disappointed to find not a drop leaked out. The build quality appears good with the sturdy hinge able to withstand some of our rougher wild camping trips. However keeping those sandwiches dry comes at a price, the basic Muksak including postage is £12.50 and whilst the strap and design are great for dog walkers, being style conscious outdoors people we’d prefer something a little more distinct for the money.
A slight re-design as a ‘campsak’ could be enough to tempt us, but as Alison says “There are products designed specifically for that, but I think the name, logo and the fact that you can tie it to your beach towel or wind break, for example, makes it less likely to get nicked!”
The Muksak costs £12.50 including postage and is available from the manufacturers website www.muksak.com. If you fancy getting you hands ‘dirty’ with one enter our competition below.
Campr goes wild
We wanted to hear what real campers ‘in the field’ thought of the Muksak so we headed down to the picturesque Newton Mill Holiday Park near Bath to get some opinions.
